‘Love Wicklow, Shop Local’ campaign launched by Wicklow County Council

A ‘Love Wicklow, Shop Local’ campaign has been launched by Wicklow County Council with the aim of encouraging Wicklow residents to support local business throughout the festive season.   People can do this by shopping locally online or safely in-store.

There is also a chance to win some beautiful Co. Wicklow prizes by showing how you shopped local in the Cathaoirleach’s Christmas Challenge.

A range of temporary measures have been introduced to ensure plenty of space for people to move around and businesses to operate in, with each of our Municipal Districts administering their own unique shop local campaigns to help restart the local economy.

The Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Pat Kennedy, said:  “At the heart of our community are local business owners who work tirelessly to bring people their favourite products and services every day. This year, because of the Pandemic, they have innovated, evolved and adapted what they do and how they do it to survive. We should support them as much as we can by spending what we can locally.”

In addition, consumers and businesses in Wicklow are being encouraged to shop local this Christmas and are reminded of the huge range of goods and services they can access on their own doorsteps with a new campaign to ‘Look for Local’.

More and more people are now shopping online and Wicklow County Council would encourage them to also shop locally online and to avail of the excellent range of high quality, products, services and gifts to suit all tastes.

The Local Enterprise Office Wicklow “Look for Local” campaign aims to highlight small Wicklow businesses in every sector, asking that people continue to build on the recent groundswell of support shown to local businesses when looking to buy goods or services

Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Mr Frank Curran, commented:  “Wicklow County Council is playing an important role in making sure our towns and villages continue to be a safe environment for members of the public and businesses. We aim to build on the success of the Reopening Committees, who have been flying the flag locally within the Districts and we wanted to endorse an overall message for County Wicklow residents to Love Wicklow and Shop Local.”

The ‘Love Wicklow, Shop Local’ festive campaign will be supported by radio advertisements on East Coast FM and on social media via Wicklow County Council’s Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/WicklowCountyCouncil/; Twitter:https://twitter.com/wicklowcoco and Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/Wicklowcoco/ profiles.

Also, as part of the ‘Love Wicklow, Shop Local’ promotion, Cllr Pat Kennedy, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, has launched the ‘Cathaoirleach’s Christmas Challenge’ which challenges people to carry out their shopping in their local area in County Wicklow in the weeks up to Christmas.  The Challenge video can be viewed on Wicklow County Council’s social media channels.

Anyone completing the Challenge is invited to post a video showing how they shopped local, hash tag where they have shopped local in Co Wicklow (#Wicklow, #Arklow, #Rathdrum etc) and to ‘like and share’ the post.  Entries must be received by Sunday 20th December 2020 and will be entered into a draw for some beautiful County Wicklow prizes.  The winning entry will be contacted on Monday 21st December.

Through our ‘Love Wicklow, Shop Local’ campaign it is hoped that everyone will make conscious decisions to shop locally as often as possible because spending locally, saves local businesses and protects local jobs.
